For those who wish to finish your own furniture, the following basic steps are a good start to a beautiful finish. |
Inspection |
Prior to finishing, inspect your furniture to make sure there are no unfilled nail holes or scratches. Fill any nail holes with a water-based filler |

Sanding |
We recommend sanding any rough areas, or areas you have filled with water-based filler. |

Staining |
The easiest way to apply stain is to use a well-saturated rag. Apply stain liberally, wiping off the excess in the direction of the grain. We recommend staining your furniture in stages (i.e. stain the top of your furniture, wipe it, and then progress to one of the legs, or drawer-fronts, etc.) |

Finish |
After the stain dries completely (2-4 hours for water-based stains, 8-10 hours for oil-based stains), apply the first layer of finish.

- Use a high quality brush or sponge brush to apply the finish.
- Apply the finish in the direction of the grain.
- Apply an even coat of the finish.

- Use a sponge brush or a lint-free rag (old T-shirts work well).
- Apply the finish in the direction of the grain.
- Appy an even coat of the finish.

Scuffing |
When the finish dries (6-8 hours), lightly scuff (sand with a fine-grit sanding sponge) to remove any dust that may have dried in the sealer, or any bubbles which may have developed as air has tried to escape the drying finish. |

Apply a second layer of finish the same way you applied the first layer |

Scuffing |
We scuff once again after the finish dries. This removes any debris that may have been caught in the drying finish, or any bubbles than may have formed. |

The final layer of finish. This layer ensures a durable, lasting finish, as well as a beautiful sheen |

Care |
After the final layer of finish dries, your furniture is ready for light use. It takes about a week to cure (harden) enough for general use. |
